“Thakur Prasad Chaudhary, 16, eats while his mother watches. The village boy from Bauniya VDC in Dhangadhi travels to Haridwar in Uttarakhand in India to be a mason. Thakur has been building bridges for the last 8 months, and will return to work very soon after the Dasain festival ends. The eldest of 3 children, Thakur was pulled out of Class 5 to replace his sister as a kaimaya because she had ran away. After the year-long contract ended, Thakur had no more interest in school and was compelled to find work in India to support his family.” This was part of my failed attempt to do a story on migrant labour.
